TechRadium, based out of Sugar Land, Texas, filed a patent infringement complaint this Tuesday against Twitter, Inc., the company that owns the insanely popular micro-blogging/social networking site that  allows users to relay short bursts of information, aka “Tweets”, in 140 characters or less.

“In its complaint against Twitter, TechRadium alleges Twitter infringes upon those patents by offering for sale and use TechRadium’s patented technology without licenses to do so.”

“Also in its complaint, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas in Houston, TechRadium seeks economic damages and a permanent injunction barring Twitter from infringing on its patents.”

TechRadium initiated the complaint after they learned that Twitter was going to be used by municipal governments for public emergency alerts.  TechRadium markets it’s technologies to municipal governments for emergency alerts, and they patented that technology.

TechRadium is also involved in another patent litigation filed against Washington, D.C.-based Blackboard Inc., which makes software for school districts to communicate with students parents.

The firm that represents TechRadium was focusing on this litigation, a focus that  delayed the Twitter allegations until Tuesday.

Gettin in the good old gossip game… What is this TMZ??

Yesterday, two Judge’s in TX got into it… Not just an argument, some actual rough and tumble, old fashioned  fisticuffs.

The Dallas Morning News reported that 44th District Judge Carlos Cortez and his Dallas County bench mate 14th District Court Judge Eric Moyé allegedly got into an altercation on Thursday afternoon in Cortez’s chambers.

Reportedly, the altercation started over some  e-mails Cortez sent Moyé about internal court business which lead to Moyé confronting Cortez.

The assault alledgedly happened in front of a court baillif.

“A heated altercation between two Dallas County civil district court judges Wednesday afternoon is now the subject of a criminal investigation, the Sheriff’s Department said.

The confrontation between Judge Carlos Cortez of the 44th Civil District Court and Judge Eric V. Moyé of the 14th Civil District Court occurred in Cortez’s chambers.”

One source claims that there was no altercation, and one source claims there was.

“I went to talk to him about a couple of e-mails he sent, and he was verbally abusive. I pointed my finger at him and he pushed it away. That’s it,” Moyé said.

“Judge Cortez was physically assaulted by Judge Moyé in Judge Cortez’s chambers… Judge Moyé’s conduct is being investigated by the Sheriff’s Department.”

“The sheriff has decided to turn today’s alleged altercation involving two judges at George Allen over to the Texas Rangers to avoid any potential conflict of interest,” she said. “The sheriff feels it is the right decision, considering we look to the attorneys and judges for guidance in civil matters.”

With Hurricane Ike pushing through Texas and leaving it in shambles, all federal court hearings in Houston or Galveston this week have been canceled, stated Hayden Head, chief judge of the Southern District of Texas.

“We will not have any scheduled hearings the rest of the week,” said Head. “That’s just for the sake of the attorneys and the litigants.”

Although Houston’s federal courthouse is still standing strong, the condition of Galveston’s courthouse is unknown. Closed to regular traffic since the hurricane hit the island are the highways in and out of Galveston.

“That building [courthouse] is closed indefinitely until we get an assessment,” said Head. “Hopefully it will be OK. It’s a very sturdy building.”
