Husband of Barred Judge Goes to Prison For Smackin Her With a Frying Pan

Posted on 15 January 2009

Relationships are hard… This is common knowledge. Now I am not married so I can’t really speak on marriage but I would imagine it is at least as hard, if not harder, but there is no excuse for domestic violence….

Now with that disclaimer out of the way we can have a good chuckle.

“The husband of a former Nevada state judge who was stripped of her position for abusing her authority was sentenced Wednesday to three to 10 years in state prison for hitting his wife in the head with a frying pan.

Before he was sentenced, Edward Lee Halverson, 49, stunned a Las Vegas courtroom with a claim that he struck Elizabeth Halverson at their home Sept. 4 because his wife, who must use a scooter to get around, threatened to stab him.”

A scooter!! A scooter… Did you seriously beat your wife, who gets around in a scooter, with a frying pan?

“If she wouldn’t have pulled a knife on me and threatened me, I wouldn’t have clocked her,” Halverson said. “I defended myself.”

In my opinion, if you beat a woman you should be locked up… period.  But if the woman is in a wheel chair, you have reached an all time low for the male specie. It’s amazing to think that this irresponsible couple had anything to do with our justice system but Elizabeth Halverson was actually a judge at one time.

“Halverson faced televised public hearings in August on numerous allegations of misconduct, including that she had a court bailiff rub her feet, improperly met with jurors, let her personal bodyguards bypass courthouse security and fell asleep on the bench.

The commission cited her lack of professional litigation and judicial expertise, and called it “a near-certainty that if elected to judicial office again, Judge Halverson’s behavior would once again be the subject of consideration by this commission.”

This whole thing is a fiasco… Judges are supposed to be people of humility and respect. Regardless of how she acted on the bench, no one deserves to be a victim of domestic violence. Let’s hope this lady gets her life in order and is able to move on.
