Guilty Until Proven Innocent: The JonBenet Ramsey Case

Posted on 09 July 2008

On December 26, 1996, JonBenet Ramsey’s little body was found stuffed in a room in the basement of her Boulder home. This tragedy began when the Ramsey family got up early for a trip and Patsy Ramsey, (JonBenet’s mom) discovered a ransom note at the bottom of a spiral staircase at around 5:30-6 a. m. in the morning. Although police were called, no one could find the young girl until her father discovered his daughter five hours later.

Then, on April, 1997, the Boulder County District Attorney, Alex Hunter, declared the family under an “umbrella of suspicion” for the murder. Well, after more than a decade of pointing fingers and throwing stones, KUSA TV in Denver has confirmed that the family of JonBenet Ramsey are innocent.

The Boulder District Attorney cleared John Ramsey, his late wife Patsy, and their relatives of any wrong-doing. It appears that newly conducted DNA tests are the proof that they needed. According to the tests, there is an unknown suspect (and no, it isn’t that wack job who came out publicly saying he did it a while back). Instead, the suspect is someone who is not in the DNA database.

So, who is it?

As scary as this is to say, the killer, a confirmed male who sexually assaulted and then killed JonBenet is still roaming free.

“There is now one step left in finding the killer of the little girl.” A source close to the investigation told KUSA. “And that’s to match the DNA to the right person.”

This DA is even more incompetent and biased than Hunter was. Why is it that every post that so unequivocally accepts one person’s (Mary Lacy) declaration of the Ramsey’s innocence, fails to mention what she said in 2006 about clearing suspects before there’s a conviction and “artifact” DNA. Despite the best efforts of the Ramseys and their defense team, a moutain of evidence has been painstakingly gathered (but routinely ignored) only now to be trumped by more of the same (if the technology is indeed reliable) DNA found long ago. Can anybody say “CSI affect”. Yea, Yea, I know this new sample was found in a different area. Around the waist band of long johns or something. In order to get the full affect of this hideous crime, I guess the killer felt compelled to remove his gloves(which he must have been wearing). It seems incredibly unlikely that an intruder would stumble around in an unkown environment, and throughout such a large area, for as long as this guy must have, in the dark, without gloves on and not leave some prints. There’s simply to much about this case that just doesn’t add up (that is, supports the intruder hypothesis). It’s no secret that Lacy has always believed the Ramsys to be innocent (which, of course, they are until proven guilty). She, though, has done nothing that demonstrates any attempt to follow the evidence or apply the investigative and analytical procedures necessary to solve any kind of crime, let alone one of this complexity. I can only assume that those who uncritically echo her sentiments have exerted an equivalent mental effort.
